The problem of Good Deeds and Faith

This entry is part 7 of 7 in the series God versus religion - why?

Any attempt to say that we must have faith  and do stuff above and beyond that to earn our salvation – it takes away from Jesus’ death, as I mentioned – but it also takes away our only means to judge for ourselves whether or not our faith is real.  By saying that faith alone isn’t enough – people are taking away our ability to stand firm in our belief – before we die / before it’s too late – whether or not our faith is real and therefore whether or not we are saved.

Are Muslim and Christian “jihadists” driving us to the End-Times? 2

This entry is part 2 of 2 in the series What God versus religion is about

In the days of Noah, people were evil in their hearts.  Tell me – how great is the evil in our hearts when even our talk of religion – what’s supposed to be our beliefs about God – turns into the kinds of things it is today?  How much evil does it take for one Catholic to call another Catholic equal to a jihadist?  How much evil does it take to have some Catholics call other Christians equal to a jihadist?

Can we know if God still cares about us?

Can we know if God still cares? Of course, that assumes that God did exist in the past. And it assumes that God still exists now. And it assumes that at least at some time in the past – God used to care. That’s a lot of assumptions. Whether you care to make none of them – some of them – or all of them – please read on and see what you think at the end.

When Jesus Died

This entry is part 8 of 11 in the series Protected from the Bible

That’s hard for some people to accept. It can seem too “convenient”. Too simple. It’s not enough.
For many people, with the lives we’ve had, it’s hard to “believe”, just because a list of things was done.
This is for you – the people who have a hard time. Because it’s not just a list of things that could be checked off as “accomplished”. It’s also about things that weren’t done. Things that couldn’t be done.

Why God is a curvy, black woman in ‘The Shack’

This entry is part 4 of 7 in the series God versus religion - why?

Should God choose to present Himself to me as one of the many judgmental Christians (which lets me our of looking in the mirror to have God represent Himself to me as me – got it?) I would be shocked. No less shocking would be if He presented Himself to me as either a father or mother figure. One thing I’m sure of though – whatever way He chooses – it will be the way I need it.

The main thing – and the ten Commandments

This entry is part 3 of 7 in the series God versus religion - why?

So – what we end up with is a whole bunch of Christian denominations arguing over whose version is correct (and also first – even though none of these denominations (obviously) existed back in Moses’ time! They take their focus off the main thing (God) and appear to non-church people like everything they stand for is just made by man and doesn’t really mean anything.

Protected from the Bible – too much reality?

This entry is part 2 of 11 in the series Protected from the Bible

This entry is part 2 of 11 in the series Protected from the Bible Ro 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. I received this from biblegateway.com  today as the “verse of the day”. At first I thought it was a good reminder. Then I thought it’s also important that we not be separated in the other direction.  You know – Jesus will always love us, but sometimes we lose our feeling of love for Him. Then – I noticed there’s a verse missing in the middle. Question – what’s that missing verse? Well – here it is – and you can guess why it was left out – Ro 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long;     we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who […]

People shouldn’t be protected from the Bible

This entry is part 1 of 11 in the series Protected from the Bible

It’s no different now that it was before. Going all the way back to Genesis. God says one thing – people want to believe another. We say times have changed. We say people have changed. We say God has changed. Truth is – Qoheleth (aka The Teacher, Solomon) was right …

Jesus – God, or just a prophet?

This entry is part 6 of 6 in the series God: Christianity and Islam

All of this sounds very good. There’s nothing in here that, as Christians, we would disagree with. All is well. But – is it really? I left out some things. Some very important things. All of the parts where Islam and Christianity disagree as to who Jesus really is. Below is the full text of the quotes from the Qu’ran – words that present a very different picture from the Jesus that we know and love, and count on for our hope of salvation and everlasting life.

God: Christianity and Islam – Home page

This entry is part 1 of 6 in the series God: Christianity and Islam

… in the very first article – “what religion was Abraham” – that there are promises made by God (the Jewish and Christian God of the Old Testament) to Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael. At the beginning of this whole controversy – Abraham – there was a common God. A God that made promises to Abram / Abraham, Sarai / Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael, Isaac.
It’s not unlike the scenario we have today with the various religions / denominations / sects that believe the others are apostates that will go to Hell. They started out believing the same thing. Then something changed.

I muttered prayers for the first time in many years.

This entry is part 2 of 7 in the series God versus religion - why?

So – if you’re thinking God won’t listen to you because you don’t know what to say and all you can do is mumble some sounds –
Go for it. He is listening. In fact He’s waiting for you.
If you’re thinking or even telling the mumblers that God won’t listen to them, maybe you should pay attention to the references here and question whether or not they apply to you.

God versus religion – why

This entry is part 1 of 7 in the series God versus religion - why?

Sometimes we can know for sure that followers of God don’t all hear from Him – like when two sets of people who know for sure they “know God’s voice” are saying two very different things. Both insist they are right about whose voice they hear – and what that voice is saying. Neither will say the other is wrong. Both just insist they are “right”.
