Holy Spirit

Count the cost 2

I do know now, after these past 7 years.  Some of it was for others, based on feedback I’ve received.  Some of it was certainly for me.  The cost has been high.  And yet, looking at the image at the top, I realize that when we’re talking about this particular cost, it’s really not necessary to blow up the budget – because the budget is way bigger than we can even begin to realize.

Joel Osteen – “God uses people to push you to where you’re supposed to be.”

This entry is part 1 of 9 in the series Why the government can't save you

Yes – it sounds like I’m picking on Joel Osteen.  Sounds like I’m even judging him. … So I’m not picking on Joel Osteen. I’m reminding us – all of us – that God really did leave us to take care of things for Him.  Yes – with the Holy Spirit – but still with us as the physical beings allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us.

The problem of faith, hope, belief and knowing

This entry is part 19 of 20 in the series The problem of ...

The concern here is that when we say things like we “know” certain things because the Bible says so, we run the risk of turning people off to the message we are trying to give.  Something that was meant to be caring and loving can be construed as something that sounds uncaring and insensitive.  I think we need to remember that we believe God meets us where we are, and so when we talk with others who faith isn’t as strong as our or maybe have no faith at all, we also need to meet them where they are – not where we are.

I’m gonna be like you dad

Just in case you didn’t catch the difference there – besides the answer changing from “probably not” to “no” – two of the words were capitalized. Instead of this being about the boy and his father – it’s about God the Father and Jesus the Son.
So what happened?
If everyone wants it to be differently – why wasn’t it?

The problem of a “pleasing aroma” to God

This entry is part 9 of 20 in the series The problem of ...

By now – hopefully the Christians who weren’t already aware of what these passages meant have now learned something. Something very hopeful, especially in times of trouble. For the non-Christians – I pray you have also learned something, and that this will help to change your view of what you maybe thought was a heartless God.

Who’s afraid of science?

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Science vs. God

On top of that, many people are taught that science is too hard to understand. The truth is, pretty much anything can be made to seem to hard to understand. If someone uses really big words – words that are only known to the “insiders” in whatever field it may be – anyone on the “outside” probably wouldn’t have a clue what’s being talked about. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Revelation: Introduction – part 1

It seems that what is probably the most common use of the word apocalypse – meaning the end of the world – isn’t even biblical in origin. It’s one instance where the book of Revelation write about the end of the world, as we know it – and that one instance is turned into the new “definition” of the word.

Lost Son Parable – Parenting 501 – update

I can’t help but wonder – if this father is so wonderful, how come neither of his sons knew it? Further – how could the father be so blind as to not know that neither son really knew him? And if he was aware that his sons didn’t know him – how come he didn’t do anything about it? In other words – why is it just accepted that the father was good and the problem was with the sons?

People shouldn’t be protected from the Bible

This entry is part 1 of 11 in the series Protected from the Bible

It’s no different now that it was before. Going all the way back to Genesis. God says one thing – people want to believe another. We say times have changed. We say people have changed. We say God has changed. Truth is – Qoheleth (aka The Teacher, Solomon) was right …

Jesus – God, or just a prophet?

This entry is part 6 of 6 in the series God: Christianity and Islam

All of this sounds very good. There’s nothing in here that, as Christians, we would disagree with. All is well. But – is it really? I left out some things. Some very important things. All of the parts where Islam and Christianity disagree as to who Jesus really is. Below is the full text of the quotes from the Qu’ran – words that present a very different picture from the Jesus that we know and love, and count on for our hope of salvation and everlasting life.

Screwtape Letter #31 – Questions

This entry is part 64 of 65 in the series Screwtape Letters

This entry is part 64 of 65 in the series Screwtape Letters Letter #31 Uh oh – Wormwood is in really big trouble My dear, my very dear, Wormwood, my poppet, my pigsnie, How mistakenly now that all is lost you come whimpering to ask me whether the terms of affection in which I address you meant nothing from the beginning. … Love you? Why, yes. As dainty a morsel as ever I grew fat on. 31.1) We always knew that Screwtape didn’t get the concept of love. Those in Satan’s lowerarchy never got the concept of who is food for who right either. Talk about this view of “life” for those who think they are tough in this world – and what they’ll encounter in the next.         You have let a soul slip through your fingers. … What, then, of this final stripping, this complete cleansing? The more one thinks about it, the worse it becomes. He got through so easily! … The extraction hurt more and more and then the tooth was out. The dream became a nightmare and then you woke. You die and die and then you are beyond death. How could I […]
