suffering

Is it true that God is “never gonna let me down”?

A person who attends church regularly – but still doesn’t know the back story behind the song – it’s perfectly reasonable to think that this song is written by someone who has had their life blessed by God and is celebrating that.  Which she is – don’t get me wrong.  But does the person singing the song know that Sarah wrote this song, not in spite of what happened in her life – but exactly because of what happened – and what God is doing for her?  I doubt that very much.

You dwell in a tired sigh

There’s room for plenty of tired sighs. Let’s add another line to this:
you dwell in a hopeless cry,
you dwell in a tired sigh.
Is that more like it? Does that describe your situation even better, that hopeless cry? Question: who is in that hopeless cry / tired sigh with you?

Are there assault weapons in Heaven? 4

Do you really think the God you claim to believe in and follow would be pleased about the part you play in this whole assault weapon industry?  Maybe you make them for sale to individuals.  Maybe you sell them.  Maybe you protect the right for people to have them – at the same time protecting our “right” to be killed by them?  Maybe you own one, claiming one of the reasons above for having it.  Would God be pleased with you?

Another sad day. And yet, … 2

This entry is part 8 of 8 in the series Learning from dogs

However, there’s another choice – remember the sadness, acknowledging the hole left in our lives – but also remember all the happy times, the things they brought to our lives, and the things they brought and continue to bring to other people’s lives.

Count the cost 2

I do know now, after these past 7 years.  Some of it was for others, based on feedback I’ve received.  Some of it was certainly for me.  The cost has been high.  And yet, looking at the image at the top, I realize that when we’re talking about this particular cost, it’s really not necessary to blow up the budget – because the budget is way bigger than we can even begin to realize.

Joel Osteen – “God uses people to push you to where you’re supposed to be.”

This entry is part 1 of 9 in the series Why the government can't save you

Yes – it sounds like I’m picking on Joel Osteen.  Sounds like I’m even judging him. … So I’m not picking on Joel Osteen. I’m reminding us – all of us – that God really did leave us to take care of things for Him.  Yes – with the Holy Spirit – but still with us as the physical beings allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us.

God – is it time for me to go home? 2

This entry is part 3 of 2 in the series Peace beyond understanding

If you’ve read anything I’ve written about my past, you would know that answer is shocking.  There are times I wanted so badly to reach the end of this life and go to live in God’s Kingdom.  To be saying I have more to offer here in this life instead of “going home” is beyond belief.  And yet – I said it.  It is something I’ve spoken to the senior pastor at church about – that I really should find ways to use the gifts God has given me.  But here, when it comes right down to it, I was still surprised to “hear” me saying this.

The problem of “handing it over to God”

This entry is part 22 of 21 in the series The problem of ...

Did you see it – if you can’t walk on water it’s because you doubt – because you don’t have enough faith.
And if that’s what you got from the passage – it’s unfortunate. Because that wasn’t the point.

The problem of a “pleasing aroma” to God

This entry is part 9 of 21 in the series The problem of ...

By now – hopefully the Christians who weren’t already aware of what these passages meant have now learned something. Something very hopeful, especially in times of trouble. For the non-Christians – I pray you have also learned something, and that this will help to change your view of what you maybe thought was a heartless God.

Revelation: Introduction – part 1

It seems that what is probably the most common use of the word apocalypse – meaning the end of the world – isn’t even biblical in origin. It’s one instance where the book of Revelation write about the end of the world, as we know it – and that one instance is turned into the new “definition” of the word.

What’s most important to you?

This is a great quote. It reminds us that Heaven, Hell and earth are three different things. While Christians recognize that Hell is worse than, and therefore different from, earth – too many seem to think that the same isn’t quite so true for earth and Heaven. They think things from earth will be in Heaven – or that Heaven will come to earth. Or some variation of that.

Lost Son Parable – Parenting 501 – update

I can’t help but wonder – if this father is so wonderful, how come neither of his sons knew it? Further – how could the father be so blind as to not know that neither son really knew him? And if he was aware that his sons didn’t know him – how come he didn’t do anything about it? In other words – why is it just accepted that the father was good and the problem was with the sons?

Protected from the Bible – Who’s in Hell

This entry is part 7 of 12 in the series Protected from the Bible

It’s easy to get mad at God because of Hell. But we have to remember – no, we have to know that Hell wasn’t made for us. We also have to realize that we don’t go their without plenty of warnings from God – and from our own choice. Some go so far as to “condemn” God – without realizing what’s even going on.

The problem of FUD – Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt

This entry is part 12 of 21 in the series The problem of ...

When you’re knee deep in alligators, it’s hard to remember that your original task was to drain the swamp. When we’re up to our necks in suffer grief in all kinds of trials. – sometimes it’s hard to remember the original task was receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Unintended Consequences – CA SB 1172

This is – first and foremost – a law that targets innocent children.
Really, all of this is over minor children. It says that parents can’t engage in conversion therapy for their minor children (for who, again, the parents have responsibility – to both the government and God). However, when that minor child turns 18, they are free to get conversion therapy on their own.

Be careful what you ask for

What some of us may have a hard time realizing is that people with attitudes like this can actually reach a point where they’re quite “happy and content” with life as they know it. Notice – I put quotes around “Happy and content” – because it’s happiness and contentment as they know it. Never having allowed themselves to experience anything else – they assume that whatever they now have in life is as good as it’s going to get.
