Our Father
This then is how you should pray: Our Father…
But what does the word “Father” really mean? It’s a common enough word. But does it have the “common” meaning in this context?

Becoming a Christian is easy. You know – say the sinner’s prayer and voila, you’re a Christian. Or so we’re often told. But, saying “I’m a Christian”, or being told, “You’re a Christian” – does that really make someone a “real” Christian? No, it doesn’t. Being a real Christian isn’t that easy. It takes a lot more than just some words. Many who start off on the path to becoming believers end up leaving that path. At one point, Jesus even asked His closest followers, You do not want to leave too, do you?

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. This tells of a time when we won’t cry anymore. Will this be the greatest miracle in the Bible? Maybe that depends. For instance – who is being talked about here. Who’s eyes are their eyes? And what does wipe away every tear actually mean?

Search me, know my heart, test me. Who would ever say these things? Do you say them? Maybe you should. Ps 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. That’s from Psalms. So if you’re a Christian, you should be asking this question. Asking no less than

Where Are You?
You probably think “Where Are You” is a person asking God where He is. Wrong!
Well – sort of wrong.
So which one is it? Was Jesus telling Peter the rooster was going to crow once, or twice? Does it matter?
Well, yes it does matter. You don’t want to give someone a “free pass” to say there’s a discrepancy between the Gospels, and therefore there is an error in the Bible. There should be at least an attempt to see why this apparent discrepancy might exist.
However, first and foremost we need to see if it’s really even different. Conclusions are no better than the assumptions upon which they’re based. So, we really cannot just assume the verses disagree without verifying it.

I Never Knew You. Most Christians will recognize these words as the scariest ones in the Bible. They’re from a passage in Matthew. The thing is – while “I never knew you” can be spelled using the letters of the alphabet at the right, we cannot tell “who” never knew “who”.
Ge 37:9 Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”
Cool. Maybe. Depends on what it means. Why would the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bow down to someone – even if it was possible?
Maybe it would be good to put some context around this. It’s from Genesis – chapter 37. It was said by Joseph – you know – the kid with the coat of many colors. Why are we looking at this? Because of a question that came up in a class – about what the sun and moon represent. Were they about Joseph’s father and mother? Or did they represent something else entirely? And, if it’s not about Joseph’s parents, then doesn’t that even put the eleven stars into doubt – were they really about his brothers? Let’s find out.

However, there’s another choice – remember the sadness, acknowledging the hole left in our lives – but also remember all the happy times, the things they brought to our lives, and the things they brought and continue to bring to other people’s lives.

Any attempt to say that we must have faith and do stuff above and beyond that to earn our salvation – it takes away from Jesus’ death, as I mentioned – but it also takes away our only means to judge for ourselves whether or not our faith is real. By saying that faith alone isn’t enough – people are taking away our ability to stand firm in our belief – before we die / before it’s too late – whether or not our faith is real and therefore whether or not we are saved.
