Seeing God in non-Christian music

Seeing God in non-Christian music.  Are we even supposed to listen to non-Christian music?  Some say Christians should only listen to Christian music. But then some Christians only associate with other Christians too. But Jesus said to go out. To those non-Christians.

Seeing God in non-Christian musicAnd then what’s supposed to happen?  Jesus went out to the sinners in His time.  By all appearances, they were happy to have Him.  But what if we go out to non-Christians and know nothing of their lifestyle?  How are we supposed to interact with them?  How can we even relate to, or speak to, what they want / need?

I dare say, lots of desires and needs are presented by way of music.  Desires for things in this life.  But the reality is that they are only truly attainable with Jesus.  This world isn’t perfect.  People aren’t perfect.  It really is a fallen world. 

Seeing God in non-Christian music

People who sing and listen to any kind of music often want something that’s expressed in that music.  It’s amazing how often we can see God in non-Christian music, if we only take the time to listen and to look.

We won’t be perfect until the next life.  But Jesus is the pathway to that next life.  So what we can / should learn is that some of the things we desire can only be obtained in the next life.  Knowing that following Jesus is critical to getting to that next life, maybe we have a chance to speak to that.

But if we don’t know anything about the people we try to reach, we will fail.  Ultimately, they’ll also fail  In this life, and in a possibility of obtaining the next life with Jesus.

I submit, it’s OK to be aware of the world around us.  We just shouldn’t succumb to it.  Music is one way to do that.  Because maybe we’d have the chance to show them what we see in the songs they listen to.  That God is very much in non-Christian music.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

Mt 10:11 “Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. 12 As you enter the home, give it your greeting. 13 If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. 15 I tell you the truth, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. 16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Know about the wolves and the snakes.  And remain a dove.  Use the strength of the Holy Spirit to be in the world, without becoming part of the world.

And don’t forget, there are a lot of very talented non-Christian musicians and singers who’s talents came from God.  It’s Satan that’s our enemy – not the people.
