On this rock Part 2 - Justice and Love to the Ancient Ones

On this rock Part 2 – Justice and Love to the Ancient Ones

It’s time to look at Justice and Love to the Ancient Ones. Remember, the ancient ones created our species. We had a lot to learn. Justice was important to the ancient ones, so they wanted us to share the same feeling about it. But justice, by itself, can be just as brutal as a world with no justice. And so, the ancient ones also taught us about love. But, it was a slow process.

Do you make Jesus pray in vain?

Do you make Jesus pray in vain?

Do you make Jesus pray in vain?  If you’re like me, the answer’s yes.  Way too often.

What do I mean?

Lk 22:31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

Satan is the accuser.  He’s out to destroy all of us.  With Jesus praying for us, how can Satan ever win?

Unfortunately, the answer is – all too often.

Is COVID in the Bible?

Is COVID in the Bible?

Is COVID in the Bible? Not directly. However, there are parallels from certain viewpoints. One way to look at it is through the book of Lamentations. What can we learn about COVID from Lamentations? I believe we can learn a lot. If we want to. Lamentations is an Old Testament book about how the Israelites reacted to being defeated, having their homes and cities totally destroyed, and then either being in captivity in their homeland or being exiled to the land of their conqueror. Sounds pretty bad, right? Lamentations was a look at how the people reacted to those events. Reactions like anger. Blame. Self-pity.

One Nation Under God. But Which God? he squirrel doesn't care!

One Nation Under God. But Which God?

One Nation Under God. But Which God? That’s a question I’ve brought up before. Today, I bring it up again because it appeared in a Letter to the Editor in the LA Times. Their heading was: If you want ‘one nation under one God,’ chances are it won’t be your religion. That is so true. But guess what? The point I always try to make is that it won’t be God’s “religion” either! That is, after all, implied in my site title – God versus religion. Also by its subtitle – What religion is God?

the way back home - from hell on earth to heaven

The Way Back Home

The Way Back Home.  But the way back home from where?  And to where?  I first wrote this one back on October 25, 2013. I cried when I wrote it. It still makes me cry. Even when I hear this song now, it’s got a whole added meaning to it beyond the obvious words.  And today, March 3, 2021, I’m publishing it again.
Get some kleenex, and see a deeper message in this amazing song – The Way Back Home.

what can Christians learn from politics?

What can Christians learn from political parties?

I was going for a walk the other day and had this thought -what can Christians can learn from political parties? It’s amazing what we think about while walking our furry friends. Like Donnie, the little guy below. I know, it sounds crazy. Especially from someone who keeps pointing out that politics and religion really shouldn’t be mixed. And neither should government and religion. And yet the question, what can Christians learn from political parties, has a simple answer. A lot. There are so many things we can learn.
After all, it doesn’t matter if Christians are taking a “Biblical” approach to an issue. And yes, I put “Biblical” in quotes for a reason. It’s because when our solution is to go to the government, and / or to act in a way that isn’t loving – it’s also not truly Biblical.

We turn people off. They reject our solutions. But even worse, they reject Jesus’ offer of salvation because we failed to act in a manner consistent with what Jesus taught.
