Does God care (about us)?

Parables and Hype Cycles (Part 4)

And so now we’re ready for Revelation. And finding out what happens to the “seeds” that fell in all four areas – which of course is a way to describe everyone who is – has been – and will be on the face of this earth. God has offered salvation to all of us – but only those who successfully make it through the hype cycle – who achieve a relationship with our Savior, Jesus – are guaranteed that salvation.

Revelation, Jesus and Hype Cycles (Part 3)

As you read through these, if you’re already a Christian – think about your own experiences, like with reading the Bible and what you’ve expected after that. You’ll probably see yourself as having gone through these very feelings.
If you’re not a Christian – this will give you an idea of what to expect, and let you know that if / when you feel discouraged or wondering about things as you move along – you’re not alone. It’s part of the process of getting to know / believe / follow Jesus.

Revelation, People and Hype Cycles (Part 2)

As you read through these, if you’re already a Christian – think about your own experiences, like with reading the Bible and what you’ve expected after that. You’ll probably see yourself as having gone through these very feelings.
If you’re not a Christian – this will give you an idea of what to expect, and let you know that if / when you feel discouraged or wondering about things as you move along – you’re not alone. It’s part of the process of getting to know / believe / follow Jesus.

Revelation and Hype Cycles – Introduction

Anyway – back to the hype cycle. When you look at it from the human behavioral point of view – it makes sense that the hype cycle and Revelation would have so much in common. After all – while Gartner presumes to know people in the IT field very well – who knows more about all of us than the One who created us? (Answer: no one.)

It Will Happen Again

It will happen again. Why?  Because we insist on freedom from religion.  Freedom from God. What is it? It’s Orlando – the mass killing – the child killed by an alligator. It’s Sandy Hook – more mass killings. It’s your neighbor – beaten up by her husband / boyfriend / lover – again. It’s all the things we want to put an end to.  Insist we can do it on our own.  And ignore the real problems. Post Views: 54

At no cost?

The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again <they> started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate <before this> at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this <same food every day>!” “At no cost”! Really? These people were slaves! And they say they had food “at no cost”? As the caption at the left says – Question Everything! If you are a slave, is anything really at no cost? Is anything really “free”? OK – you didn’t pay money. Because you don’t have any money. But then – you don’t have anything!! Post Views: 57

God or the Devil – who is winning you over?

“”It’s a test, David. Don’t you see? I bet those demons told God that you would run with your tail tucked between your legs at the first sign of difficulty.” She shoved her finger downward. “But God said, ‘No! Not David Chance!’” Yes – the image at the left is kind of cute.   And that’s how too many people view the devil / demons. And angels as well. They’re just a “story”.  Maybe even just a way to make funny commercials where we choose between food that’s good for us versus something that we want to eat that maybe isn’t do good. Post Views: 4

Three Tragic Verses – One Unavoidable Conclusion

When presented with the facts, no matter how much we don’t like what they say –  sometimes the conclusion is unavoidable – The U. S. will not help Israel at a critical time – and we will be part of ushering in “The End”. Three tragically depressing verses from the Bible are these – Eze 22:30 “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. Zec 12:3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” Post Views: 4

Is life supposed to be like this – 64,000 dangerous household chemicals?

Is life supposed to be like this: House Set to Subject 64,000 Household Chemicals to Regulation Of course not. So why do so many people reject the chance to have a better life?   When I first read the headline on msn.com news – House Set to Subject 64,000 Household Chemicals to Regulation – my first thought was about how much money that was going to cost. Then I wondered how the chemical companies ever let this get considered, let alone approved. Then I read the article (Sorry, this article is apparently no longer available), and understood why the chemical companies were not only OK with it – but would support it. Then I thought about how eventually – this won’t be a problem. Finally – I thought about the issue of – So why do so many people reject the chance to have a better life? A better life? Yes – a better life. Let’s look at that and see how.  And why so many will reject the opportunity. First of all – the 64,000 chemicals that are going to be regulated.  And these are just the ones to be regulated.  I would never have thought the number would be […]

The problem of Global Warming

What’s the real problem of Global Warming? Arrogance. Here in California where I am, you can no longer build a house with a fireplace.  At least “regular” people can’t.  I’m sure that with enough money and loopholes, the rich people can do it.  But the average person can’t.  Because we will make global warming worse. There are also days when those of us in old houses that do have fireplaces are told we can’t use them.  Because we will make global warming worse. I’m waiting for the day when we’re told we can’t use our outdoor BBQ any more either. Because we will make global warming worse. Arrogance. Seriously. Look at this picture:   This is a picture from a forest fire raging in Alberta Canada as I’m writing this. Now – ask yourself – does this contribute to global warming? Does it maybe contribute to global warming more than some fireplaces and bbqs? And it’s not like this is the only fire.  There are lots of them. When I was in school – we used to be taught that things like forest fires were “nature’s” way of taking care of those forests.  The old / dead stuff was burned […]

The Next Life: better, worse, the same, or non-existent?

What’s your hope for the next life?  Better?   Worse?   The same?   Or that there won’t be a next life?   There’s really no other choices .  Logically, it must be one of these.  So pick one! Hoping there won’t be a next life Strictly speaking, not having a next life may be redundant – at least for some people.  Those that have thought of nothing after this life may have already decided whether that’s better, worse, or no different than the life they now have. So let’s start with that one. It’s kind of depressing.  No – it’s just plain depressing.  The thought of this being “it” – with nothing to follow – makes life seem pointless.  Suggestion: having been there myself, thinking this life is pointless – either try to find a way to make this life meaningful – or try to find a way to make the next one better.  (More on that thought later.) At the risk of sounding too “Pollyanna” – even doing something to try to make the next life be better will make this one seem better.  And even if there’s no life after this, at least this one will […]

Our Thoughts and Prayers Go Out …

We hear it a lot – thoughts and prayers going out.  But who do those thoughts and prayers go out to?  And to what end? I’m not writing this to in any way demean or diminish the reason for someone saying this.  I’m writing it because I’m also concerned and care about the person saying it.   One day when I arrived at work on a college campus, I saw someone walking over to a table to join someone who was already there.  It was the first week of classes – and all the fraternities, sororities and clubs were trying to recruit new members.  The person who was already at the table said to the new arrival – “Thank God you’re here!”  Sounds good.  Until I saw they were working the humanist table.  They don’t believe in God.  So who exactly was being thanked? Since then – I often wonder who is being addressed when someone talks about “God”.   This morning I was wondering something similar about this phrase – “my thoughts and prayers go out”. Thoughts “Our thoughts go out”.  To who?  To what end? Thoughts just “going out” aren’t really directed at anyone.  It’s just thoughts. […]

The Problem of Healing (or Not)

Does God still heal today?  Yes. What does the word “heal” mean?  That depends.   This is from a very special article I wrote almost four years ago.  I’m updating now and moving it over here to prepare for a class that I’ll be doing soon.  Updates for that purpose will be in italic rust colored text, so you can tell the original portions. Here’s the verse that got me started on the road to updating this article – Jas 5:13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. The question that came to mind are these – What does “sick” […]
