Is “it” a human, a lump of tissue, or a lab experiment?

“We have grown the entire brain from the get-go,” Judge Rules Frozen Embryos Are People the Supreme Court in the case of Gonzales v. Carhart ruled that Congress may ban certain late-term abortion techniques, “both previability and postviability” “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.” “We have grown the entire brain from the get-go,” This quote is from an article in The Guardian titled First almost fully-formed human brain grown in lab, researchers claim. You may have noticed the difference between the quote and the title of the article.  The house is already divided – and we haven’t even gotten past a single article yet. Here’s a larger excerpt to give some context – The brain, which is about the size of a pencil eraser, is engineered from adult human skin cells and is the most complete human brain model yet developed, claimed Rene Anand of Ohio State University, Columbus, who presented the work today at the Military Health System Research Symposium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Previous attempts at growing whole brains have at best achieved mini-organs that resemble those of nine-week-old foetuses, although these “cerebral organoids” were not complete and […]

The Alpha protects them all!

The Alpha protects them all! Ps 12:5 “Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” Ps 12:6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.   When How to Train Your Dragon came out, I wrote this article called Are there dragons in Heaven?   The other day I was looking for something to watch that would be relaxing, and came across How to Train Your Dragon 2 – which I had seen before. As with the first one, watching it the second time really touched me.  Especially the line at the end – The Alpha protects them all! Like in the first one – I’d still love it if we really got to ride creatures like Toothless in Heaven.  It’s supposed to be an amazing place, Heaven.  That’d be one of the many amazing things I can imagine there.  People and God’s various creatures living the way we were supposed to originally. Anyway – back to the Alpha and protection. I’m in the middle of doing a series […]

The problem of hope

Hope.  A problem?  Absolutely! A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous. You have to realize where this quote is from to understand it.  Please – read on. The context for the quote above – President Snow: Seneca… why do you think we have a winner? Seneca Crane: [frowns] What do you mean? President Snow: I mean, why do we have a winner? I mean, if we just wanted to intimidate the districts, why not round up twenty-four of them at random and execute them all at once? Be a lot faster. [Seneca just stares, confused] President Snow: Hope. Seneca Crane: Hope? President Snow: Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous. A spark is fine, as long as it’s contained. Seneca Crane: So…? President Snow: So, CONTAIN it. Got it yet? Yes – Hunger Games.  I finally watched it a couple says ago.  In a way – I was surprised.  But in another way – I wasn’t surprised at all. As Christians, we believe that God is everywhere.  Given that – we should be able to see something of Him – well – […]
