After you have suffered a little while. Who are we talking about? And what is a little while? Not to mention, what happens after the suffering? And maybe, what is the suffering? How about why will this suffering take place? But first, where does this even come from?
Do Not Worry - Matthew and Luke
There’s no reason to think the actual beast in Revelation exists today. There are prerequisites, events that must take place before the antichrist makes his or her appearance.
So why go through all this if the beast doesn’t exist yet? Well, because it matters. If we can be deceived today, what hope do we have when the events in Revelation start to unfold?
Given that we’re so easily deceived today, it’s critically important that we learn to listen to the Holy Spirit. In church-speak, to be able to discern the difference between truth and lies. Not on our own, but with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Let’s look at a few examples of things that deceive Christians, even today
As I said, these examples are important. The things that deceive Christians today are from “ordinary” people. In other words, they aren’t from the antichrist. Not from the beast in Revelation.
Does God punish us today, like when He didn’t allow Moses to enter the Promised Land? That’s a question that came up when we were studying one of the Beatitudes – Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. You can maybe see how the question might arise. And how it seems important. After all Moses did to lead God’s people in the Exodus, he didn’t live long enough to set foot in the Promised Land. So what chance do we have?
Each day has enough trouble of its own. Isn’t that the truth? I’m guessing pretty much everyone reading this feels that way. It’s true. But do you know where it comes from? Further, why it was said? I’ve known the where part for decades. I’ve been learning the why part for the past ten years. From my dogs. All five of them.
No – you’re not in the wrong place. This is about Jesus and Christianity. And dogs. Why not? Dogs are part of God’s creation too. In fact, back when the movie version of The Shack came out, I wrote the following as my conclusion to what I titled, Why God is a curvy, black woman in ‘The Shack’?
Should God choose to present Himself to me as a dog (if He hasn’t already) – I would totally understand why, and be thrilled that He chose to present Himself in a way that was not in the least threatening to me.
I was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago. It reminded me that Christians often say, “God’s in control”. But some problems go along with saying that. Like – just how much control? And then there’s the issue of saying it – versus actually believing it. And on top of all that, when we say God’s in control, do we actually live like it?
A funny thing happened on the way to writing Distractions. I got distracted. First, it was going to be an update to something I wrote almost eight years ago. Somehow, it turned into something brand new. Then, I got distracted again. This time, by medical news. News that raises the question – to run from God – or run to God?
Do Christians really know what “Christian Hope” is? In a word – no.
“Most of we Christians are blind to the truth of who we really are, and so are afraid to enter the valley of the shadow of death to find the light beyond it. Our hope is that we’ll find it in the next life and so remain powerless in this life, yes?”
from “Waking Up: To Who You Really Are (If You Dare)” by Ted Dekker
I really like reading Ted Dekker.
Although – sometimes it’s just so hard realizing that what he says is just a bit too true.
Do you want to read the Bible more than you have in the past? If so, you’re not alone. Have you been successful in reading the Bible more often? Then you are nearly alone. That’s very sad. Especially when you see what’s coming in this article and in the rest of the series We’re going …
