How did Christianity get to be like this?

How did Christianity get to be like this?

How did Christianity get to be like this? You ask, Like what? Let me answer, initially, with a hint, rather than a direct answer. Some think one of the worst things to happen to Christianity was when Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity. As history is showing, that’s more significant that most people probably realize. The parallels to what’s going on in the U.S. today are incredible.

Historians now debate whether “the first Christian emperor” was a Christian at all. Some think him an unprincipled power seeker. What religion he had, many argue, was at best a blend of paganism and Christianity for purely political purposes.

This then is how you should not pray...

This then is how you should not pray…

This then is how you should pray.
That’s the passage before The Lord’s Prayer.  Short.  A mere 4 verses.  But what is Jesus really saying?
In the first part of the passage, Jesus talks about this then is how you should not pray.

But is it like, I wish you wouldn’t pray like the hypocrites?  Or maybe it’s, I’d like it if you could avoid praying like them.  Or is it more like, you really need to ask for My help and try very, very hard to not pray like them?  Or do you think it’s just a suggestion, as in it’d be nice to not be like them but don’t worry if you can’t help it?

Wait ’til you find out what they meant.  It’s shocking if you’ve never noticed before.

Will we be married in Heaven?

Will we be married in Heaven?

Will we be married in Heaven?  That’s a tough question.  And many people don’t really like the easy answer.  That easy answer, of course is, no we won’t be married in Heaven.  And that’s because Jesus said, The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage …

But is that too easy?  Actually, yes, it’s way too easy.  Partly because the quote is taken completely out of context.  And also because it completely ignores the cultural differences between Biblical times and many parts of the world today.  Further, it completely disregards the reason marriage and divorce were even instituted in the first place.

Elections and Faith

As we approach voting time, many people will vote according to their faith.  Who knows – some may even vote according to their resistance to any faith.  There’s a perception (justified or not) that religious people, especially Evangelical Christians  tend to vote for the republican ticket. Seems like a good time to see what Jesus had to …

Why is Christmas so scary? What it’s really about.

Christmas.  It’s the time when we hear so much about how it brings out the best in people.  It’s time to give gifts.  It’s time to be nice to other people.  All those things.

Scary stuff – isn’t it?

And then there’s the baby – Jesus – the true “reason for the season”.
A little baby.
Very scary.

Don’t laugh.
It’s true.
