If you want to walk on water ... expect a storm

If you want to walk on water … expect a storm

If you want to walk on water … expect a storm. If you want to walk on water is the beginning of a great John Ortberg book. His book title ended with You’ve got to get out of the boat. I borrowed the first part but switched out the ending to expect a storm.

However, there’s part of that “getting out of the boat” that isn’t always so obvious.
Or maybe it is obvious. But we choose to ignore it? I expect it’s the latter. We want to ignore it.

Does God always give us what we want?

Does God always give us what we want? That depends.

Does God always give us what we want? The first version of this had a slightly shorter title. Someone asked, after reading it, whether the answer was yes or no. This time, I’ll give the answer away right upfront. It’s right there in the title. It depends. This means, therefore, the answer is no! Without even getting into the condition(s) upon which “it depends”, the answer must be no, since there is, in fact, at least one condition. Let’s find out about that condition.

the way back home - from hell on earth to heaven

The Way Back Home

The Way Back Home.  But the way back home from where?  And to where?  I first wrote this one back on October 25, 2013. I cried when I wrote it. It still makes me cry. Even when I hear this song now, it’s got a whole added meaning to it beyond the obvious words.  And today, March 3, 2021, I’m publishing it again.
Get some kleenex, and see a deeper message in this amazing song – The Way Back Home.

Do not be afraid because of them!

Do not be afraid because of them! But who is “them”?

Do not be afraid because of them! That might sound good. But who said it? Who was it said to? Does it apply to us? And who is “them”? Who is it that we shouldn’t be afraid of? Oh yeah – why shouldn’t we be afraid? These are all good questions. Will we ask them? Or will we just run with the statement not to be afraid? Especially if we’re Christian and we know this comes from the Bible!

Is abortion the only pro-life issue?

Is abortion the only pro-life issue?

She doesn’t know what to do.  She doesn’t really want to have an abortion.  But doesn’t know what else to do, because the Christians are screaming at her to not have the abortion.  But then if she has the baby, she also knows those many of those same Christians have, under the name of their political party, made it pretty much impossible for her to support the child.  And, few of them will offer any kind of help.

Tell me.  Who all sinned in that scenario?

If you quit

If we quit …

If we quit, all we do is prove those who said we couldn’t do it were right.
If we try something, we may or may not succeed.
But if we quit, failure is guaranteed.

Some may not like what I just said – for lot’s of different reasons.

Maybe you don’t believe in God.  Sorry – I’m not going to address that issue here.  There’s plenty of other articles you can check out though.
Maybe you don’t believe in the devil.  Same answer.
Maybe you’re a Christian and remember verses like this one –
Jn 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Yet again – sorry, although for a different reason.

sanitized evil

Sanitized evil

Maybe that’s a problem – sanitizing evil. No – lot’s of people won’t want to see it. But to some extent – maybe we should. We can’t smell it.  We can’t get inside the head of the person who committed the act. And we think – “it’s bad”.   But we still don’t really know.

Lord, you have been our dwelling place - Moses

Lord, you have been our dwelling place

Lord, you have been our dwelling place.  Moses wrote that in Psalm 90.  It’s from the very first verse.
Ps 90:1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.

But wait.  This is part 2 of a series about “The End”. Why are we looking at the beginning?  Well, it’s because what happens at the end is very much dependent on the beginning and the middle.  And on one other thing.  Honesty.
