Maybe that’s a problem – sanitizing evil. No – lot’s of people won’t want to see it. But to some extent – maybe we should. We can’t smell it. We can’t get inside the head of the person who committed the act. And we think – “it’s bad”. But we still don’t really know.
Do you really think the God you claim to believe in and follow would be pleased about the part you play in this whole assault weapon industry? Maybe you make them for sale to individuals. Maybe you sell them. Maybe you protect the right for people to have them – at the same time protecting our “right” to be killed by them? Maybe you own one, claiming one of the reasons above for having it. Would God be pleased with you?

However, there’s another choice – remember the sadness, acknowledging the hole left in our lives – but also remember all the happy times, the things they brought to our lives, and the things they brought and continue to bring to other people’s lives.

I do know now, after these past 7 years. Some of it was for others, based on feedback I’ve received. Some of it was certainly for me. The cost has been high. And yet, looking at the image at the top, I realize that when we’re talking about this particular cost, it’s really not necessary to blow up the budget – because the budget is way bigger than we can even begin to realize.
Just in case you didn’t catch the difference there – besides the answer changing from “probably not” to “no” – two of the words were capitalized. Instead of this being about the boy and his father – it’s about God the Father and Jesus the Son.
So what happened?

I was trying to say that certain things are over before you realize it, before anybody realizes it.
Somewhere between those two extremes is realizing that Satan and his fallen angels do exist, and knowing enough about them that we won’t be one of those who get tricked or caught up in one of Satan’s traps – and losing our soul, as Jesus told us in this explanation of the Parable of The Sower –

Essentially – the message comes down to – Do not be afraid, unless there’s a real reason for you to be afraid.

That’s not to say I didn’t have second thoughts – didn’t wonder if the cost was getting too high. I did have them. I even ran away a few times. Fortunately, I always returned.

If you’ve read anything I’ve written about my past, you would know that answer is shocking. There are times I wanted so badly to reach the end of this life and go to live in God’s Kingdom. To be saying I have more to offer here in this life instead of “going home” is beyond belief. And yet – I said it. It is something I’ve spoken to the senior pastor at church about – that I really should find ways to use the gifts God has given me. But here, when it comes right down to it, I was still surprised to “hear” me saying this.
