See the plank in your own eye

See the plank in your own eye

Open your eyes.  Take the plank out of your own eye.  Really see with them.  The way Jesus said we need to see.  Then ask, where is my treasure?  Is it in Heaven or on earth?  ‘Cause if it’s on earth, you’re on the path to Hell.  You know – the path of the blind?

Please, don’t be so devote to someone – anyone – who’d so devoted to things not from God that you lose sight of when you also become so devoted to the dark that you end up on the wrong path.

Why do you live? The economy or God?

Why do you live? The economy or God?

Why do you live? The economy or God?  Really, that question comes down to who’s your “god”?  Do you live for the god of money – the economy?  Or for the God of the Bible?  It’s a question that starts at the top – sort of.  With our president – Trump.  And now it’s filtering down through our governmental leaders.  Which brings in yet another “god” – the god of government.

In spite of the fact that Trump call himself the greatest president ever for Christians, there has to be a question as to who is his real “god”.  And now, enter Dan Patrick, Lt. Governor of Texas.  A Republican.  Let’s look at a news article on msn.com, titled Dan Patrick says he is willing to risk his own life to allow economy to resume.

Christians don't want power

Do Christians want power?

Do Christians want power?  What kind of question is that?  Look around.  Of course Christians want power.  Check out the Republican Party.  Witness the strange almost worship-like adoration of Donald Trump by so many Evangelical Christians.  They want power.  So why does Scot McKnight say Christians don’t want power?  And why is he right?  How, in the face of all we see, can McKnight possibly be correct when he says Christians don’t want power?

Actually, both statements are correct – Christians do want power.  But also don’t want power.  It’s not really a question of whether or not Christians want power.  It’s a question of what do we mean by power.

Truth + Half Truth = Half Lie = Lie

Truth + Half-Truth = Half-Lie = Lie

Truth + Half-Truth = Half-Lie = Lie.  It’s a progression.  We start with the truth.  Add in something that’s not quite true.  Now it’s a half-truth.  But it’s really half-lie.  And the conclusion we reach with that half-lie is almost certainly an outright lie.  The big question is, are we willing to acknowledge that?  Maybe even, are we capable of acknowledging that?  Or are we so conditioned to even the half-lie that we think even something with the tiniest piece of truth must really be true?

Elections and Faith

As we approach voting time, many people will vote according to their faith.  Who knows – some may even vote according to their resistance to any faith.  There’s a perception (justified or not) that religious people, especially Evangelical Christians  tend to vote for the republican ticket. Seems like a good time to see what Jesus had to

Are there assault weapons in Heaven?

Do you really think the God you claim to believe in and follow would be pleased about the part you play in this whole assault weapon industry?  Maybe you make them for sale to individuals.  Maybe you sell them.  Maybe you protect the right for people to have them – at the same time protecting our “right” to be killed by them?  Maybe you own one, claiming one of the reasons above for having it.  Would God be pleased with you?

Joel Osteen – “God uses people to push you to where you’re supposed to be.”

Yes – it sounds like I’m picking on Joel Osteen.  Sounds like I’m even judging him. … So I’m not picking on Joel Osteen. I’m reminding us – all of us – that God really did leave us to take care of things for Him.  Yes – with the Holy Spirit – but still with us as the physical beings allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us.
